    Hi folks,
Thank for letting me join the group and look forward to seeing what we're all up to and learning from you all.
I'll do a quick introduction, My name is Dave Shrimpton, living up near Cambridge in the UK.
My passions are for large & medium format. I'm shooting a lot with Graflex speed graphics including conversions to take Petzval lenses.
the other big passion is wet plate collodion.
Please excuse the number of photos but thought show what I've been up to.

Currently using a D-76 to develop my 5"x4" but thinking of going over to a Stearnan SP-445 tank if I can get hold of one - any thoughts?

    Kind regards,
    Dave

    Welcome to the forums, Dave.

Regarding the SP-445, I'd suggest a Google search as there are several threads around discussing this tank; IIRC a couple live on apug.org. You should read up on the pros/cons and issues folks have had with the tank. I own one and, in general, it's a nice tank; though it holds only 4 sheets of film. Mine was from the original Kickstarter campaign and, as such, has the solid film holders; after many complaints about "lines on negative" and other issues, Tim redesigned the holders to now be open in the middle to, theoretically, allow better flow of chemistry around both sides of the film. I don't have any direct experience with these new holders as I've had very minor issues with the current (solid) holders so don't feel the need to replace them.

    Hope this helps a little.

    Hi Alan,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. That's great and to be honest I only found out about the tank today. A friend used one and gets some great results with a lot les chemicals that in my D-76 drum. I'll keep an eye out and see if one comes up or I can ship one to the UK.

    Kind regards,
    Dave

Hi there Dave.. A warm welcome to one of the 'friendliest' of photography lists.

I have used numerous 'systems' for processing my large format films over some 50+ years.
While I am less than willing to 'knock ANY of them down', I have nothing but praise for both the 'eveness' the 'economy' of using the BTZS tubes for both my 4x5 and 8x10 inch film when using Pyrocat HD.
