Hi everyone

I am based Near Aberystwyth in West Wales.
I have been shooting a combination of both film and digital for over 20 years.
After selling 90% of my film gear due to issues with my eyesight a while back I decided recently after speaking to mate that I would give large format a try (due to being able to use a loupe). I have recently designed a built a 3D printed large format pinhole camera and then got a good deal on a 4x5 monorail camera.

I have just purchased a Cambo cadet (with red bellows), Schneider Xenar 150mm/ 4.5 and a bunch of film holders and accessories.
All being well everything should be here over the next few days.
The intention at this point is to use use a combination of paper negatives and a box of foma 100 which I have also ordered.

I can honestly say for the first time in a while I am actually pretty excited to get out and shoot again.

Regards

Mark

Welcome from Worcestershire.

The Cambo Cadet is a great little monorail, I had one for a while, but only used it on a trip to Cornwall while living abroad. Very light and portable, and a nice bright focus screen..

That is good to know, thankyou. I wanted a field camera but could not push to something like an intrepid at present.
This came up at a good price and after looking around it did look like it would not be too much heavier than all my other camera gear (all be it slightly larger). I may have a look and see if I can find a shorter rail for it however.

I thought the rail might be awkward, but I found in practice it was not a problem. I think the profile was made for Cambo. There is a UK company who have some Cambo spares, also try Linhof Studios.

You could also contact Cambo

Hello and welcome from the warrens of the New World.

I have fond memories shooting in the Lake District and then down the Welsh Coast many years ago. Here's one of the results (pssst, it's not 5x4, don't tell anyone):

I will wait and see how I get on. Someone did say to just chop it down but i am loathed to do so with what seems to be a camera in such good condition. Feels like sacrilege...

I have already spoken to a few places (ffords, cambrian, camathan cameras etc...) without any luck but I will take another look into it once I have the camera here and measure it all up so I know more about what I am dealing with.

Thanks.
Cracking shot, love the tonality. Its not a bad part of the world to live in for sure (apart from the weather)
I must be mad trying to use a kite to photograph landscapes in wales given the amount of wind we get.

Maybe I will name the camera the Red kite ;)

This was shot with a Hasselblad on a tripod. In the negative or at high magnification, one can clearly see a fellow in a golf cart with his dog on the plain below. I didn't see it at the time of taking but it was fun surprise in the darkroom.

Thanks everyone

So my first ever LF camera arrived today. Bit of a bucket list moment for me as I have been talking about doing this for years.
Its in immaculate condition, came with a whole host of accessories. Came with a matching red dark cloth as well

So the little red kite is just waiting for film to arrive tomorrow now.
