Hi all, good to meet you. I'm on the return to analogue skills trip - started as a kid with a Lubitel 2 (120mm) and Zenit E (35mm), later Canon ....then obviously digital, and drones.... and now, with the help of Stills I'm enjoying re learning the analogue skills. After a workshop I was very keep to learn about 5x4 and bought a Wista DX that needs some love; the lenses are great though (90mm and 150mm). So far I've only used photo direct paper - but loving so far.
Looking forward to getting involved with this community too,
Andy

Hi Andy.
I'm a bit of an LF novice myself so it's great to get coherent answers to questions from the people in the know here.

Welcome to the Forum, from Worcestershire. I visit Edinburgh occasionally as I have cousins in the city. Should pass through sometime in the Spring, on the way to Broughty Ferry.

Well if you're coming through by train and have an hour or so for a chat, it'd be fun. to meet up at Stills photo gallery, close to Waverley Station. Let me know, May will soon be here.

Welcome Andy. Edinburgh is a great photo shooting place, also the surrounding area.

Well, Spring is coming. If anyone is coming up to/through Edinburgh and has some time, we could do a 5x4 photo walk together. Coffee on me. There's a place from Calton Hill, on which you can photo Princes St and see Rock House - maybe we could channel the early photographers who had little choice but to enjoy Large Format and Contact prints.

Rock House :
Built in the 1750s, Rock House is reputed to be one of the oldest houses in Edinburgh’s new town. It came to worldwide fame as the home of David Octavius Hill, the artist and pioneering photographer who in 1843 together with Robert Adamson developed the calotype process at Rock House. Both Hill and Adamson are credited with the origination of photography as an art form – taking the camera into the landscape and for the first time photographing people in their natural habitat.

Rock House remained in continuous use as a photographer’s studio from the 1840s up until the 1950s. Recently renovated, it has now returned to its former glory and can be enjoyed by members of the public for short stays and holidays.

(PS if you're actually staying in Rock House, coffees are on you !)
