boulders spaunton moor

These boulders are a rock called ganister - a hard sandstone. They are not bedrock; they were deposited on the moor, geologists believe, during an ice age. There are hundreds scattered around on Spaunton Moor, and I've found a few in other places. It is easy to be drawn to them because the moors are relatively featureless, that is until you look closely.
