I'm currently in the market for a lens to print from 4x5 on my DeVere. I was planning on using the mount to which my long-abandoned 80mm Rodagon appears to have welded itself. Even if I could remove the lens, I'm not sure whether the recessed mount is compatible with large format. Enlightenment please, thank you.

The mounting thread will depend on the lens. Unlike most 80mm lens which are M39. I have 3 135mm enlarger lenses. The two Componons are the same thread as a Coplal/Compur #0 shutters, the omponon S iss a 42mm mount. My 150mm Rodagon is around 49mm thread, and Vivitar VHE (Componon S) aprox 46mm.

Usually lens over 105mm are mounted with a flange or retaining ring. I'd try and find a lens on a De Vere board. My 135mm Componon S has no click stops, and the Vivitart and one of the Componons had heavy use and have cleaning marks, or I'd sell them.

I'd recommen a 135mm lens with the De Vere, it makes working easier as you need less head height, thats from experience using my 5108. With slightlylarger prints it's harder to reach the filter adjustment knobs.

I'm happy to report that since posting my question, I've bagged myself a very clean Componon 150mm f5.6, complete with De Vere flat mount - and for the usual cost of a (used) mount, alone.

I had actually been looking for a 135 - as per your recommendation, but the above was too tempting at the asking price. Anyway, what I failed to mention is that my enlarger is fitted with an Ilford MG head and filtration is controlled at the touch of a button on the timer.

I intend to continue printing smaller formats on my Durst enlargers for which I have a selection of lenses and matching mounts. Thanks for your input, again.

The Componon 150mm is a good lens, so you've done well. It's more practical using a Durst for small formats, it is also useful having a second enlarger for pre-flashing.

In my case the 5108 Dichroic head uses 4 120v 250w bulbs which are expensive, so it makes no sense to use it for 6x6 and smaller. So like you I use my Durst M605.
