Paper negative. Big tree; bright sun

These trees are so magnificent I fear for them in every storm, even though they are well cared for. Beautiful in the summer and amazing in the winter.
Paper negative made on an impossibly sunny winter day with a rare deep blue sky. F/22 ~3 seconds. Watson f/8-f/64 lens on a C19 field camera. The grey areas are the finest, lightest spindly twigs moving in the breeze.
Whole plate negative on expired Ilfospeed 2. Developed in 1:20 Ilford Multigrade.
Positive contact print on fresh Ilford MGIV.
Scan is disappointing, but I like the image because it is such a favourite tree.



Smudges on the edges are strange patches that showed up on the back of the negative after the first set of prints. No idea what happened I can probably dodge them out next time. Paper negatives seem to be as fragile as film.

Good progress. I find that RC papers are prone to being marked (perhaps from the action of putting them in and out of the "film" holders) but thicker fibre-based papers are more robust. But then you have the 1-hour wash to contend with.

I am contact printing so RC seems the most sensible.
Thank you for the tip about it marking more easily. I'll check that film holder - perhaps something oily or sticky has found it's way in.
