Questions on "splotchy development"

Andrew who wrote the article seems to be quite a prolific experienced photographer/darkroom worker. The last image in the article is indicative of collapsed/oxidised developer. I saw this myself when testing my first batch of Pyrocat HD, in my case the Pyrocatechin was old and developed and stained very patchily.

My takeaway from this thread is that Pyro 510 is very fussy and not worth the effort ... also consistent with my own brief use.

I've been using 510 Pyro the last few days to tray develop 10x8 double-sided Fuji x-ray film; semi-stand for 60 minutes, a minute or so agitation at the beginning and again at 30 minutes. Acrylic plate in tray which solved the scratch problem. So far, I haven't seen any issues with splotchy or uneven development, and it tames the contrast effect of the x-ray film. Attached one of the results.
