Last weekend the family drove to Sandane (Norwegian west coast between Aalesund and Bergen) to stay there for a night in a cabin. Forecast said a few mm's of precipitations but in effect we got 10cm in a few hours. - I went out to take pictures with both my Bronica SQ-Ai, and my 5x7/4x5 Rittreck view camera.
This was Rittreck 5x7, Fomapan 100, developed in D23 (I have not tested for Fomapan 100 speed in this developer yet - but got acceptable shadow details).
Up in the left quadrant there is a big stainlike blotch with a clear defined edge.- This happend with 2 different sheets in two different holders. - The other two sheets were ok. I don't understand quite how this happened. When I was out taking the pictures it was snowing quite wet snow/sleet. The temperature was around zero degrees. Did water get into the holders and when stored flat-ish/horisontally - did water flow to a corner and thereby explaining why only one sheet in each holder were affected? - Could this be condensation? - Before and after the shots the holders were stored in the car. And the sheets were brought into the warm house more than 24h before developing.
The sheets were developed in a Paterson Orbital tray (two 5x7 sheets at a time). In the first round the amount of developer could have been a bit more. But I don't see signs of that being the explanation. No foreign object was in the tray. For the second round I increased the amount of developer and other solutions. But same happened here. One of the sheets displays the same spot in the same position.
Now - there could also be that the box of sheets has a problem - but I took two new photos yesterday - developed in D23 just hours after shooting. Nothing like that mark. - So any idea - please let me know. Not a big deal - but just want to understand.
