My scanning process for B&W is very simple: I just lay the sheet film down on the scanner glass.

Thanks. Whenever I do that on my Epson V700 I get newton's rings. I place the film emulsion side up.

Fortunately I never get NR with black and white films. So far it never happened with colour films but I scanned only a few ones...

Try emulsion down. The emulsion has a less-shiny surface. It’s easy to correct the mirror image in software.
