Unusual 7" Lens

This lens came in a job lot, it is a 7" f5.6 meniscus lens. It’s unusual, the barrel is some type of steel, the element held in with maybe clay.




My gut feeling is it's a very early camera lens.

Magic lantern lenses were typically Petzval type lenses. Then a magic lantern projector needs condensers and quite high light output, early ones used electric arc lamps, so you would use a lens like this.
