If you live anywhere in the London/Kent vicinity it's a wonderfully atmospheric place to visit and photograph. It's in a country park but seems almost forgotten ... when the trees have leaves you could walk past it ten yards away and never know it's there.
It's history is that somewhere around 1910/1915 the retired landlord of the Angel pub in Islington -an aptly named Mr Cash - bought the rights to dig wells for mineral water in this area. He sold the water as a 'cure all' in chemists shops for an exorbitant two shillings a bottle, and built the mock Greek temple over the fifth, and as far as I can determine, only successful well. It fell out of use when the water became contaminated by sewage from a tuberculosis sanatorium that had been built up the hill from the well site.
