Back in the mid to late 1970's I'd wander the Welsh Marches at weekends with a close friend, she'd studies Anglo Saxon history at University. Years later I began revisiting some of the sites which was when I made this image, this and A few other images were the possible start of a major project but I went off in quite a different direction.

While I never progressed this particular project it and my earlier wanderings laid the foundations for my later work and in particular the ways I looked at the landscape and the way we've used it.

You're in luck, Ian, as the castle is up for sale. I went there with my brother earlier this year to take a look around as there was planning permission for a dwelling on the northern side where there was an existing workshop.
