Plate Camera Auction Amersham

[Nick Rowland]

If anyone is interested buying an old plate camera, there is one coming up at Amersham Auctions. Not sure what format it is but suspect it is half plate. Might be of interested to someone in the area. The auction estimate looks rather low to me.

Comparing the camera's photo to one I restored a couple of weeks ago I'd think it's a Half plate camera, the estimate is on the lw side compared to completed Ebay sales. People pay a lot for casket set lenses as well.

Worth watching I think, the auctioneers don't ship so needs to be collected or shipping arranged through a third party. The camera seems in fair condition and as you say, the lens set alone is worth having if the price ends up reasonable.Mind you, the estimate is only a guide and two folk competing on the day can push it up massively. To confirm the format you'd need to contact the Auction and ask the to measure the dark slide.

The size of the fittings, the speed plate on the TP shutter, all indicate Half plate. It's definitely not Whole plate

This was one I restored last week, just need to attach a lens

Should have said the lens is to small for a Whole plate camera as is the TP shutter, only the larger lens near the lubrication covers Whole plate.

I may start selling a few off soon as I have quite a few Wood and Brass cameras

This is an interesting topic, I'm also looking for something like that.

I registered for the saleroom.com auction alerts. A lot of the UK auction houses put their info through that.

I signed up some years ago, however I've not bought at Auctions. There's two auctions I check the catalogues for Flits and Astaons both have specialist Photographic auctions.
