Rose In Watering Can FomaPan 100 D23

Tucked away under the spare wheel of the car I found a box of FomaPan 100 sheet film with a sticker on the top saying 3 unexposed sheets left 2017.
So these had been in the car for the past 3 1/2 years... hmmm.

Not knowing the condition, I decided to make an exposure and develop it in the Kodak D23 home brew developer for 7 minutes 30 seconds.

In full disclosure, I am relatively new to D-23 myself. My observation is that D-23 is well suited whether there is a bright highlight scale one wishes to reign in to give the highlights a sort of soft "glow". The developer effectively is flattening the film curve at the higher end of the brightness range.

Low agitation long development causes the shadows to fully form (full ASA). When you combine D-23 with that technique, you can handle subjects with long subject brightness ranges and get images that really have highlights that pop along with meaty shadows.

In side-by-side comparisons that I've done this year, semistand D-23 1:1 and semistand Pyrocat-HD 1.5:1:200 produce very similar results.
