A Bowl of Pears - still life #2

I don't do still life. So, whatever I say should be taken with a grain of salt. However, I find the shadows distracting. Also, I would have used a plainer background. The lines and knot holes draw your eyes away from the subject. Why are there three dots on the wood to the right of the bowl and the bowl is dirty? More distractions.

Grain of salt taken! I would agree with your regarding some of the the distractions Alan. The bowl wasn't dirty - it just happens to be home made by my Dad on his lathe and was as clean as it could be. Plain background? Yes I agree!
Anyway, there's a lot to think about when doing still life, as I'm discovering. It's great practise especially lighting technique and setting up - perhaps you should give it a go sometime. Thanks for the feedback.
