Something a bit different; a video story to go with a picture

I am lucky enough to share my workspace with someone young enough to truly understand short-form video (as well as many other fascinating things), and to also have a very bold, decorative friend willing to spend some time making photographs with me.

Having recorded some video during a photo session last week, Olivia then edited it into a delightful jewel, a minute or so long.

Can't post the video here, of course, and it may take a while to find a spot on one of my own websites.

I was working on Harman Direct Positive Paper 5x7. Exposures got (even) slower through the day so no smiley photos in this set. The image below is a basic scan of my favourite. These prints have a gorgeous silvery quality that the scanner can never quite capture. I'm still fighting with the contrast, of course, and in this case struggling to bring details into the darks without blowing out the skin highlights, but when it begins to work it is SO much fun.

Kittie is a somewhat 'high contrast' model too. She wore a light coloured shirt as a special favour to me!

Those prints look great, thanks for sharing that. I think that is tempting me to have a go, haha!
 
Really nice work! Were you pre-flashing the paper at all? I've been stumbling my way through a pack recently without - the contrast is certainly nice for some things but would be nice to have a bit more control.

Not sure I've achieved anything like 'control' it's still a bit hit-and-miss. I preflash using a translucent 'filter' over the lens for between 1/4 and 1 second depending on the total exposure time, and how my shutter is feeling.
Slow development helps too. Sometimes 1:20 Ilford paper developer, sometimes 1:14.
Drying the prints flat is a whole other story! Usually a 2 day process.
 
Aha, interesting - cheers. Might have to experiment with that a little with the last few sheets I have.

And again, lovely work - and also what a beautiful room to work in!
