Last two negatives that I processed I noted a couple of marks on the negative, they are on the shiny side not the emulsion and do not appear to have shown up in the scans. Anyone else seen anything like this? It appears to be an imprint of the carrier frame, what's the cause ?

I think you’re right. Did you pre-soak? I don’t have this tank so I can’t comment further. Sorry.

Looks like the frame to me too. Is this a new tank? Haven't they changed the design of the carriers a few times. Maybe you don't have the latest version. Also, how do you agitate?

Is this the Stearman tank? The latest carriers have a random texture, whereas the early ones had fine ridges that left fine line marks on the non-emulsion side. They didn’t affect scans either although it was worrying. I put it down to contact with the film changing its reflectivity slightly. Faintly visible by reflected light, but not by transmitted light.

yes its the tank. I will look at the carrier a bit.

The carrier has a tree bark pattern.

NAS I didn't pre-soak

Agitation was standard Ilford

Yeah, sorry. I was thinking what axis do you rotate the tank on. I found it made a difference to the eveness of development though I don't know if it will cause what you're seeing. Just wondered.

I tried to reproduce the rotation I use on my patterson tanks, top to bottom and back is "one"

Is there a suggested agitation in the instructions? I'm fairly sure I've seen it mentioned in a video when the tank first came out. Have a look for the Stearman YouTube channel.

The instructions just says four inversions per minute but doesn't say in what axis. I initially rotated it around the longer horizontal axis (grabbing it by the sides and rotating away from me and back towards me) but got uneven developement so I know rotate it around the shortest axis (grabbing it by the sides and rotating it like a car's steering wheel - twice in one direction and twice in the opposite direction). Seems better. Not sure that will help the OP but maybe...
