This is a photograph of the West window of Saint John Baptist church situated in Adwick Upon Dearne South Yorkshire. The window is late 13th century.

I cut down a piece of Ilford Multigrade Pearl Photo Paper, slid it into the dark-slide and exposed directly onto the paper to create a paper negative. I rated the paper at at ISO 4. It was then developed under red safelight for about 10 minutes and then stopped, fixed and dried before scanning.

Hi Ian. Apologies if I’ve asked this before, but which developer do you use with the paper negatives? I’m curious given the fairly long time for paper development. I’m keen to try this myself over the Summer. Thanks!

Hi Alex,
The print developer I used was Fotospeed PD5 but I mixed it extremely weak. I have found that if you use it at normal strength for paper negatives, you quickly loose control as the negative can develop far to quickly.

Thanks, Ian. I appreciate your experience. I have been meaning to try some proper paper negatives for a while.

That's remarkable. Who would guess it was a paper negative?
May I ask a small question? You say pearl paper. Does that not have a fine texture? Although it's not evident in your image, I would have feared it coming through on the print

I have seen texture from the paper in skies but the pebble dash on the church seems to be more strong than the texture of the paper.
