Early afternoon after observing the first 'pick-up hockey game of the season when while walking "He with four legs and tail" around the nearby park. After their 'clearing the area' using hand-held snow shovels'..... I returned with my camera (and tripod) to record to FP4 film behind the 150mm Rodenstock, Two 'types of winter recreation. In the distant edge there were two 'older' fellas with fishing lines down through a hole in the ice'... "Ice fishing"...always a popular past-time across Canada in winter (which is most often done with a set-up tent with a small propane heater to prevent freezing to death.
Exposure was made from a spot meter reading of the 'white' to Zone 8+1/3 from the 'white' on the rear of the jacket of the one of the figures (rather than of the snow since I was not likely going to get any texture from the wind-blown snow. FP4 behind my 150mm Rodendock...and developed (after evening meal) with Pyracat HD in BTZS tubes.

Great to see people using snow for a bit of fun Ken. Over here in Ireland we tend to be a little too serious for our own good when it snows. Take this morning for instance. We woke to last nights fall of around 1-1.5mm of snow. I bet not one camera was taken out. But, I will guarantee that not one loaf of bread and not 1 litre of milk is on the shelf. Just incase there is another mm on the way.,
Cheers

Dis,
Its almost 0630h... still "dark" and I'm 'up' after lying awake for a while thanks to the 'howling' of the 85 (gusting to 95 kph) cold wind out of the west. I was pleasantly surprised (on my first winter here in '63/64) to note that snow and the cold cannot be 'allowed to interfere with 'that which has to be done' i.e. getting to work etc. We just have to 'adapt' and 'live with that which cannot be changed'. The pioneers usually built and over-wintered in 'sod houses' a few feet into the ground until such times as as they could build a 'real' house. If you don't have a garage you have to 'plug in' the car's block heater when the temps drop far enough to make it more than difficult to have the starter 'turn the car's engine' fast enough to get it 'running'. You might be surprised as to how difficult/awkward that can be when its -25 degrees C.

That image would /could not likely have been made if the wind had been as 'bad as it is' this morning. They would not
even 'be out there'

Can't do any more 'snow' now that 'spring' seems to have landed on the doorstep..snow now all gone....and I was suddenly reminded me of a something that my dad used to "quote" each and every 'spring time' when I was much younger

"Spring has come,
The grass has riz
We wonder where the birdies is...
Some say the bird in 'on the wing'
.. but that's absurd....
Because the wing is on the bird

You may now stop smiling

Diz,

I may have been rather too 'quick' to declare the arrival of spring. As I sit (hunting and pecking at the table I just noticed some large 'fluffy' stuff falling somewhat 'gently' out the corner of my eye... a lot 'larger and fluffier' that was obvious when taking the dog out for his (read 'our) morning exercise. Just a week or 10 days ago it was somewhat heavy and falling by being blown 'horizontlly' thanks to a 90km/hr wind... but fortunately all gone withing 36 hours.... I doubt it will really amount to much more than a promise that 'real spring is just around the corner and I can re-seed the large patches of dead grass on back lawn that has been decimated by a severe dose of 'snow mold' that you don't 'see' until the snow has all gone.. No peace for the 'wicked' I guess.
