I've seen Tintypes being created on site at a festival, but these might be on glass - or maybe not. Either way it's such fun and brings the immediacy of traditional photography to new audiences.
250kg of tricycle is a lot of pedalling! Photographic fitness too :).
(Later edit - now see they probably are on tin/iron plates, or perhaps black glass)

Yes, I like the way he makes it so normal, somehow.
Another thing I’ve discovered, while looking again, is that I like to see the people in the photographs looking more like themselves and not some grinning idiot, as is the custom nowadays.
 
Perhaps the slightly longer exposure times help with that?
Because my face is not hidden behind my larger format cameras I also find that I get more 'usual' expressions.
 
That must be a factor.
I wonder if the fact that he’s doing something interesting makes them forget themselves and relax into an unselfconscious alert expression.
 
It's also because the whole process, as in session, is slower and more considered, and as you say David interesting for the subject.
