Skull.jpg

Somehow, my original posting of this image and the 'text' that accompanied the image disappeared (bad fixer?).
I am now 're-posting' most of what I had previously submitted.

The remains of this animal (which, if my ageing memory serves me well enough were that of a Cougar) were found ‘out in the field’ by a Government employee who took what remains he could ‘find’ back to his workplace, It was allowed to dry out before being cleaned of any remaining organic tissue by Dermestids in a secure closed environment. The skull properly cleaned-up, and then sterilized.

I was allowed borrow the skull to make photographs of “bone” for my Board Certification exam portfolio. The skull was placed on Black velvet and illuminated from directly above by a 1 meter square Broncolor “broad-light” with 3200°K tungsten illumintion . Spot meter reading taken from near side just below the ‘top surface’, diaphragm was adjusted for bellows extension, and exposed to Kodak Plus-X for ½ second at f.11 behind my Rodenstock 240mm Sironar on Linhof monorail. Film was processed as “normal” in Pyrocat HD in BTZS tubes.
