When I first started photography in the late seventies I avoided having what I thought were ugly looking cars in my photographs. I was looking at a friend's photographs yesterday, we had a great time reminiscing about how useless a lot of the 70s cars were. Looking back I wish that I had the vision to realise nearly everything ends up recycled or in landfill, photographs at least preserve an image of the long forgotten.

Same with towns/villages/ schools you grew up with. How many people would think to take a photo of their High Street for example? The most mundane can have huge impact when viewed 50-60 years later.

That goes for a lot of things in photographs, there was a time when our street photographers could document life on our streets, including children at play, try that these days and you are likely to have the police knocking at your door
