Happy Toyo field owner

My absolute best tripod, IMHO, is my Ries A100 legs with an A200 head atop. The head has tilt, only, and would hold a small car! :D I used nothing else with my 10x8 Deardorff for nearly 20 years. But, age has a way of catching up to ya so, nowadays, I use a surveyor's style carbon fiber tripod with Gitzo G1570M head for the 'Dorff. If I'm really stubborn about using 10x8 and have to walk/hike any real distance at all I'm going with my Intrepid 10x8 sitting atop an Induro CF tripod.

Ian, though I have used the Nikkor-M 300mm on the Toho I have to be careful about wind. If there is anything more than a slight breeze, I probably won't attempt a shot. No problems in this regard when mounted on my Arca-Swiss F-line; now the Fuji C 450mm? Have to be careful with that one even on an Arca-Swiss! ;)

Alan, I'd bought the 300mm Nikon M with 10x8 in mind as well as using it on my Wista however it was longer than I'd intialled planned before I finally bought a 10x8 Agfa Ansco |Commercial View, The 2nd owner had used a 300mm Nikon M saying the original 12" Dagor was useless (in fact he'd never tried it) and it's a superb lens.

2 or 3 years ago I bought a bargain priced 360mm Tele Xenar from Paris (France) and that's great to use with the Wista, none of the issues I have trying to use the 300mm Nikon M. I also have a 17" (430mm) f5.6 ex Military telephoto lens almost certainly a Dallmeyer, it's shutterless so needs to be used on my Speed graphic, although I now have a large front mounting Thornton Pickard roller blind shutter

The great thing about LF is there's a lot of flexibility, it's easy to use older lenses, and modern lenses for 5x4 will often cover half plate/7x5. I'm about to finish an adaptor allowing me to use my lenses on Wista/Linhof lens boards on my Half Plate Kodak Specialist 2k I've already made one to use one of the lenses - a 240mm Nikkr-W -on my 10x8 Agfa Ansco.

A Dagor that's useless? Wow, never heard that before!

Yeah, I like the flexibility we enjoy with LF, but... I have 3 5x4 cameras that I use for different purposes. For example, I can pack the Toho for many miles, but I'm unlikely to carry the Arca-Swiss very far. The Wista I have doesn't get used much, but I've owned it for 40 years and would never have the heart to get rid of it. I pretty much have a series of lenses for each camera, but it sure would be nice if I could easily swap lenses between cameras. I, once, made a custom 6x6 Deardorff lensboard that would accept a 110mm Arca-Swiss lensboard which allows me to use my Fuji C 450mm on either camera without having to remount the lens. Super convenient! Maybe...someday...I'll work up something that will enable me to more easily move lenses between all my LF cameras. Hey, a guy can dream! ;)

Well there was a lot of grime around the front edge of the lens which the seller described as separation, but some glass cleaner quickly showed the 1939/40 lens had been coated after WWII and was and still is in excellent condtion for its age.

The Linhof/Wista lens board has become a sort of standard for many cameras which is useful. My problem is too many entirely different types of lens board but some I can make adaptors for. The problem is even manufacturers didn't standardise, Toyo use at least 3 different boards on 5x4 cameras, Graflex 2, MPP 3, and so on.

Luckily the Pre and Anniversary Speed Graphic lens boards are the same as the MPP MicroTechnical (except the MkVIII), the Pacemaker and Super Graphic boards fit the MPP MicrPress and Toyo Super Graphic. I made a rough adaptor to use Lihof/Wista boards on MicroTechnical cameras and early Speed Graphics so I'm getting there slowly :D

Yes, the 410 is excellent. There is now a very similar head from Benro, which might be an alternative. I haven't handled one, so I can't comment further.

Henri, did you use any movement on the first image of Devil's Dyke ? There's a significant difference in foreground distance compared to the downs in the background.
