How good are you at metering zone 3 ?

I must admit that I have yet to expose a sheet of film although I have loaded three 5x7 fidelity holders with FP4.

I have some holiday time next month, so fingers crossed.

Best of luck. You certainly won't mess anything up. You might just possibly not hit absolute, ultimate, once-in-a-lifetime, hole-in-one perfection, but where's the fun in that?
If you are clever enough to discover a new and original mistake, please let us know.

I have a natural talent for making mistakes.

Perhaps I should invest in a Stouffer step wedge and take it from there. I haven't enough experience with large format yet, but hopefully I will get good negatives with practice and experience.

I have a partly used box of FP4 Plus to use up and an unopened box of Delta 100 to wade through which came with the camera.

Step wedge, eh? Has anyone seen an interesting picture of a step wedge?

Large format photography is just like all other kinds of photography, but with a more inconvenient camera. If you’ve ever taken a reasonably successful photograph with any camera, you are well-prepared to take one with large format.
The great advantage of the large format process is it’s almost infinite play-value. So many knobs to twiddle, so many dilutions to try... You’re not obliged to twiddle; you don’t have to dilute. For some people, it’s so much polished wood to stroke. It takes all sorts.
What we see on this format is photographers at play with the medium. (Although they might sound serious.) Some of it may seem as exotic as the laws of cricket, but it all becomes clear in the end.

I’m still waiting for the fascination of cricket to dawn on me. Fifteen men, mostly standing still, in a big field? Apologies to the converted.

Well, I'm glad my 35mm and 120 roll film negatives print very nicely. Perhaps I am over thinking the use of a large format camera when it comes to exposure.

Yes… Film is just film, whatever camera it’s in. We keep it in the dark, so it doesn’t know.
