This photograph was made on on what appears to be an un-named street which runs along the East side of the Minster.
Contrary to what the photograph shows, the railings were more or less in complete darkness to my eye.

I was using Fomapan 100 sheet film which has awful reciprocity and for that reason, I simply estimated the exposure at 6.5 minutes including reciprocity at f/8.

In order to try and tame the brighter areas, I decided to reduce the development time from 9 mins to 7 mins 20 seconds.

Chamonix 045N-2 Camera
Kodak HC110 developer 1:63
FomaPan 100 Film
Exposure 6 minutes 30 seconds @ f/8

This looks good, Ian. Your approach seems to have worked well. Andrew Sanderson wrote a good book about night photography. It's worth a look if you plan on doing more. It's the best one I've read on low light work.
