I just received a mixture of camera bits I recently bought. Amongst the items are a Sinar F2 with this customised front standard frame. Anyone seen this before? I can only guess it's to hold in a heavy lens. Perhaps over engineered?
Also included is a Norma shutter with different shutter speed markings on each side. What's that all about? I really like this clean design compared to the later version with the aperture scale running vertically (which is redundant with non-Sinar DB lenses). It came with a nice all metal shutter release I haven't seen before. All the others seem to be black plastic coated. The shutter is essentially free after I split out all the other bits.

Interesting bits you picked up. The holders definitely look like they are for heavy lenses.

Did you have any luck in getting a 8x10 back with the job lot? I’ve just been in contact with a gentleman who has a Norma 8x10 kit. Another parson I spoke to who used Sinar gear when they were industry standard told me that he didn’t really like using the 8x10 conversion kit as the movements wasn’t as accurate and sturdy. He suggested I get a norma 8x10 back and change the glass.

Unfortunately I only got a Linhof 10x8 monorail body, bellows and rail with the lot. It's missing the back. The F2 did come with what looks like a custom made reflex viewer which is smaller and more sturdy than the Sinar branded viewer.

I'm not sure how the 10x8 Sinar conversion kit would be any different to the 10x8 back because isn't it all modular? Doesn't the 10x8 conversion back frame just attach to the rear standard you already have? In that case how can the movements be any different?

If you go the Norma route you'll need to check whether the Norma used a different bellows frame to the P models. I know the P2 10x8 bellows are unique at the 10x8 end and don't fit the P.

You've got me curious now about which Linhof?
Kardan, Kardan (super) Color, Bi, L, Standard, TE, GTI, GT, GTL...

perhaps you can help identify it? On closer inspection it looks to be a 5x4. The bellows are straight. It looks a lot bulkier than the Sinar F2 I got in the same lot which is also 5x4.

Remember that I also have a box of ‘Sinar bits’. There may some potential overlap. I think this one is missing the thingummy that clamps the monorail to a tripod.
