This is a photo of the gas holder that used to dominate the skyline for miles around in the Southport area. You could even see it from Blackpool. A few folk regarded it with affection as a sign they were nearing home after being away, but it was much loathed by the majority as a 24 carat blot on the landscape. I am with the loathers. Even so, just before it was due to be demolished, I decided to record it for posterity.

I wanted to convey something of the sense of the scale of the thing and how it dominated everything in its locale. So I didn't include the top, to make it seem taller and kept the sides parallel, which makes it seem to loom over the viewer. The white van is an irritation, there is always a flaming white van, but it couldn't be helped. Anyway here it is.
