Can anyone tell me what might be causing the red blob on the film edge?
I get this on almost every sheet of film.
 
Yes it is.
It does not look light a light leak.
I'm wondering if I bought a dud batch of E100 or I have a contamination problem.
The dark slides are brand new Toyo 4x5's.
 
Toyos should be safe. Is any part of your developing apparatus in contact at that point, or even fairly close?

Not really.
I load the film in a large changing bag in a low light room.
After the film is exposed I load the film in the MOD 54 film holder under the same conditions.
