I have just mixed up 1L of Kodak D23 and was concerned about the colour. I wasn't sure if the Metol hasd gone bad. @Ian Grant might be able to tell

Metol lasts for decades, it should clear.

Thanks Ian, the Metol was some you gave me, it looked a different color in the bottle as powder to what I had bought before online.

Would you suggest waiting until it clears before using it

Metol can have a slight straw colour. You should always wait at least overnight b fore using freshly mixed developers.

Looks fine. When cleared, it should have a slight straw color to it.

I've used D-23 stored in a partly filled glass bottle well over a year old without incident. Freshly mixed, it should be fine assuming you mixed the chemical proportions properly.

Ian - Did you add a pinch of Sulphite to the water before adding the Metol?

I believe it removes oxygen from the water, making it easier to dissolve the Metol.
