At the last Wolverhampton Camera Fair I bought a large plastic storage box with 4 cameras, plate holders, and other items. There were two field cameras, a Half Plate (H. Jasper Redfern, Optician), and a Quarter Plate Instantograph

This tripod fitting was in the box.

By chance, I bought a set of Bentfink Patent tripod legs, and was rather surprised by how narrow the top fit was, compared to other sets of tripod legs I have. They fit this small tripod ring perfectly.

The ring is 2½" in diameter, for reference that is a ¼" tripod thumbscrew. So now I need the correct sized thumbscrew for the camera, I assume 1/8th of an inch.

Now I just need to find a scrap camera as a donor for a front standard.

That does look remarkably small!
I'd be inclined to drill it out & fit a 1/4-20 threaded insert.

I found two thumbscrews that fit, perfectly.

I prefer to keep as original, if/when I find a front standard I will sell the camera complete with the tripod ring & legs.

Thanks Matt, I saw that a few days ago :D I'm just after the brass parts of the front standard. It's a case of patience, and the part will turn up at a low price.

A few years ago in another box full, there was a TP Ruby quarter plate camera in its case, with plate holders, missing all the brass work. The wood and bellows are in excellent condition. I think the box came from a closed camera repair shop, and the brass work lost. Another wait for a scrap camera.

Good luck. Sometimes, waiting is the fun part :D
