Hi anyone still interested!
The final week's agenda was mostly about scanning the 5x4 negatives we had taken, then printing on the big pro-Epson inkjet printers.
Scanning is a "need to know" and as it was my first ever tryout I got a lot from it - thanks in part to Matt, a fellow learner who works at a national mainstream media newspaper doing (in part) lots of scanning!
On another thread I will post some questions about the results I got from using my own film - an unexpected bonus from the course - extra info before I start shooting and processing the sheets from a long expired box of HP5...
To tie this thread; up a couple of points
1. I recommend the course for new-to-LF folks who have a solid understanding of film photography
2. If you're not experienced in scanning that's double!
3. Others with more experience also enjoyed the course and felt it worthwhile
4. CityLit college is open-access and has scanning facilities in their library - free to join - not sure if 5x4 yet offered, our course participants are campaigning for the option right now!
5. Killer question - was it worth 4 X days off work, £200+ for the course, 4 nights accomodation - YES FOR ME with family in London, NO for others - spend the travel money on a private course??
Finally, the very best resource and pleasure has been meeting other LF users - we have a little WhatsApp group now, and in September 2026 I will start attending the Barnsley Photographic Society meetings, with my pal.
