Hi,

As promised (threatened? ) here are my thoughts about week 2 of the CityLit Large Format course.

The outdoor photo taking session today was changed to an indoor session due to the threat of wet weather - a good call by tutor Matthew and supported by the group, I think.

We had a great explanation of camera movements by Mathew and used our self-loaded dark-slides (damn hard, for me, took ages!) to take portraits with vertical back and front standard for 1 exposure and used a lot of vertical swing (sorry if that's the wrong term, I am a bad student!) to see the effect on the second exposure.

I want to give a big shout-out to Richard for his generous help and 1-to-1 instruction to support me when loading the dark slides and then using HIS OWN MPP 5x4 - please understand that Richard is a fellow student!!

Maybe best of all was the cameraderie of the group, with two learners who couldn't attend week 1, coming in week 2, and contributing to the learning and good mood of the whole class.

I think next week is us processing the sheets we took today - again I am a lucky guy 'cos the college uses the Patterson drum system that I happen to have bought into (and to my shame have never used ).

I will try to load some of my own dark slides now I am home, and use my own MPP to actually take some images.

I will take these down to the next session and hopefully develop them in the class - if that isn't possible I will bring back to sunny Barnsley and give some hard-earned to Nic and Trick or Morko for chemicals!

Robert
