Magpie Mine

These look great. Would love to know your conversion process as it looks flawless.

Hi Jonathan.

My basic process is as follows:

Scan on an Epson V700 using Epson Scan.
I use the histogram to set the black and white points and maybe tweak the brightness.
In Lightroom I make changes as appropriate - this is usually just tweaks to the highlights, shadows, whites, and blacks, and I add a bit of Clarity (but not much - less than 20%). I also I add some sharpening using Sharpener 3 Pro.

And that's it apart from dust spotting, straightening etc.

Is this in Cornwall?

Cornish engine houses can be found in other parts of the UK, aside from this one in the Peak District, there are a few in Shropshire on the Stipestones.near Snailbeach which was a lead mining area.

There were quite a few in the Black Country (South West of Birmingham) but often these were poorly built from brick and timber, only one remains at Warrens Hall Park, near Bumble Hole. These were used to drain the 30 foot Black Country coal seam.

I'm not sure why I've never visited Magpie Mine, it's on my list for my next visit to the Peak District. It could be an area for a group visit as there are many members here within in easy distance.

Ian
