I like this one Martin. If the water was on its way to Staithes (and not you) it must be the Roxby Beck. I used to poach trout up there when I was a kid. It looks wider than I remember it though...

difficult to say, I remember taking a small road beside the bigger one from Whitby to Staithes

Could be anywhere then. But my bet would be Roxby Beck at Dale House, just inland from Staithes.
