Seascapes and Trees

Got out again over the last day or so. The weather really went to crud on the first evening but yesterday made up for it.
I was really looking forward to trying out PyrocatHD for the first time as well given all the good things I had read about it.

I must admit I am not very happy with how they turned out. A lot of them seemed underexposed and / or flat. in the seascapes there did seem to be some kind of mottling going on for ever reason as well in the sky and sea area which is not something I have seen before. in the last two negatives that I developed afterwards there also seemed to be some kind of uneven development or a change in exposure / contrast 1/3 of the way up from the bottom pretty much in the same place on both frames. This I will need to investigate more and do some further testing with.

All of the below are shot with Foma 100 @100, PyrocatHD 1:1:100 for 12 Min @20c. Aggitation was continuous for 30 secs and 4 inversions every minute.
I wanted to try and get a baseline before attempting anything fancy (semi-stand, ema etc...)

All of these are the best of a bad bunch if I am honest and in varied degrees took a bit of saving in post processing. I am going to do some further investigation and testing and may well see if shoting foma 100 @ 50 instead is the best way forward.

I appreciate that you may prefer not to do too much post processing, but in my opinion you have ended up with four good images. I'd be very happy to get four good LF images from one day of shooting.

I do shoot Fomapan 100 at EI 50, unless I'm really pushed to keep the shutter speed short.

Thankyou very much. That second seascape only took about 45 minutes to get (waiting for cars etc... to leave) and I still ended up having to crop out a bloomin car that decided to park it self in the scene just as I started to take the shot.

I have no issue with post processing however I prefer to do things in camera where at all possible (I am the same with digital).
The amount of work to pull out those two seascapes for example to my are unacceptable. However, I am also my own worst critic

I use a good amount of Foma films and have found the box speeds optimistic. I always rate them at half box speed. The instructions state to use water instead of stop bath. After I made this change I noticed the mottling and marks I was experiencing disappeared. I mention this just in case you're using stop bath.

From everything I am reading this does seem to be a general trend in regards foma films.
No stop bath just water and a Alkali fixer. It was only on the seascapes which look a little dense so I am really not sure unless it has something related to that. I will keep an eye on it over the next few sessions.

I only use either Pyrocat HD or Rodinal and all Fomapan films I shoot at 1/2 box speed. Water bath as well. With these combinations, if the shot is poor in any way it's down to me...
