The Greatest British Photographer

Good old Ted Forbes, haven't watched any of his stuff in a while, will watch this properly later on today.

Perhaps the "Never Heard Of" is by non UK photographers, and also younger photographers. I have numerous magazines with articles on JB going back to a very early copy of Ten8 magazine, which includes "Wounds on Trees", the later Rural Myths Ten8 magazine with the article "Where the Wild Things Went".Camera magazine's Landscape edition October 1981, and a few more.

John was always regarded (in recent years , since the late 1970s) as the leading British Landscape photographers, even after he changed direction, he nurtured both Fay Godwin and John Davies.

Ansel Adams is mentioned in the video, his early print quality was poor, that only changed when he retired from Commercial & Portrait photography. Many of us saw images from his daughter's collection in Oxford. Edinburgh, and London, a few years ago, and the prints were awful.

Ansel Adams is famous for the Zone System, but most of his well known imaged predate it, Minor White was the expert and the more important influence on British Photography. You need to read "Where the Wild Things Went"

Ian

I must admit that I find the title slightly odd, and misleading. And misjudged. Blakemore is very well known here in the UK. as Ian has just noted. As for him being our greatest photographer, that's another question.
