I have a spare bathroom extractor fan so I was thinking of fitting it in my darkroom, but what is puzzling me how do I stop the light from coming through the fan. It will be going through a double brick wall with a self closing flaps panel on the outside.
What have others used to stop the light from coming through the opening.
 
As Ian said , but I'd recommend having it the other way up, than his illustration shows, so it does trap rain water :)

You might also look for a used Doran light proof baffle. These were sold both as free standing light proof baffles - I use on of these on my darkroom door to support airflow through the darkroom. They were also sold with an attached fan assembly. I also have one of those, but that fan is starting to get might noisy after 30 years.
