Yes, I cut the mask out to the size of my negatives. I be,I eve it was used to prevent light diffusion. Cant find a source for more blank sheets.
When wet scanning is there a requirement to wash the film to remove the residue of whichever scanning fluid is used? It's not something I've seen mentioned anywhere.

The fluids used will leave a deposit or mark but they don't damage the film and you'll be cleaning them if you want to use them again anyway so no point cleaning them twice.
It won't do any harm, besides the chance of scratching the film that each cleaning cycle adds, but I don't see the point.@Tim Parkin , what's you view on wiping them down with 99% Isopropyl alcohol
I have a V750 Pro and it is difficult to get 120 strips totally flat in the supplied holders. If I purchased the V850 120 holder with anti newton glass insert, would I see a notable improvement in sharpness across the frame. It’s very easy to spend lots of money for no appreciable gain in this hobby!
For $26 you can try it.
film holder assy., brownie for Epson Perfection V850 Pro (compassmicro.com)
Lay the negatives emulsion side down on the scanner glass down the middle, lay some framers glass on top and use the 10x8 setting in the scanner software so it switches the internal lens of the V750 and you won't see any difference with 120 film
They list it as a V850 component. Why don't you call them just to be sure. What I don;t know if the V850 holders will fit your V700 scanner.Don’t think that one has the glass insert.
I can buy one with a glass insert in the UK for £50 but think I’ll try Ian’s suggestion first. Just need to be sure I’m going to see an improvement before spending the money.

One other thing. The V850 holder only holds 2 6x7's unlike my V600 holder that holds three image strips. So you have to cut down three image strips to two, a poor design from Epson with the V850 120 holders. Also, the film gets pressed down into the holder a special way. Check the V850 manual for how to do that.

The way your deescribe the 120 holder for the V700 is how the V850 holder works - the third picture hangs off the right. Clampoing the holder seems to squeeze the third picture potentially damaging it. So that's why I cut it from the strip and just use either the two picture strip or the one picture strip. Of course that screws up reinserting the strips back into the plastic holder sheets for storage. Like I said, a poor design from Epson. The V600 holders were better holding the three picture strips, although no glass. Thanks Alan. According to some YouTube videos, the V850 holders work with V750 scanner. There are 2 types of 120 holder, one without glass and the other with ANR glass. My V750 120 holder accommodates 2 strips but when scanning my 6x6 negs, cut into 3, the 3rd neg falls short of the end of the mount, meaning it’s not clamped by the holder. I’d rather scan my negs one by one and have them totally flat by using the glass insert but just wanted to get feedback to make sure there are no issues before spending the money.
I know this is an old post but if you buy an Epson V850 pro you can get a free fluid mount from Epson.I have a V750 Pro and it is difficult to get 120 strips totally flat in the supplied holders.
