I knew a photographer who took nightscapes in cities. He had a bulb with a very slow leak, which he discovered gave him excellent exposures, and being a very small leak, didn’t interfere with normal operation.
He mentioned other night photographers who used “…one Woodbine, two Woodbines…” as a timer but he himself didn’t smoke.
