This photo was made back in around December 2007 on a trip to France and during a gale. In the making of this photo I came perilously close to seeing my Ebony camera get washed out to sea when an unexpectedly large wave ran up the shingle slope I was photographing from. The camera on the tripod was some 5 feet above the shingle and I had to watch while the water came within a a foot of the camera having been taking completely by surprise by the wave.

I also discovered that you can't run anywhere on a sloping shingle bank, all you do is dig a hole and go nowhere but down. Thankfully due the the very heavy tripod the camera survived unscathed though I got rather wet.

I am pleased with this image and I count it among my best and I have a large 30 x 24" version printed by ilford on proper fibre based photo paper. Though for some reason I have never got around to framing and hanging it. Note to self......

Once again it is a photo of a photo so not an optimum version of the image. Anyway here it is,

Personally, it is impossible to comment without seeing a better optimised version, that doesn't need to be perfect, just closer perhaps to the actual print.

I suspect the print really has far more open shadow detail.

I shall what I can do. I will have to scan the negative when I get some time. Watch this space:)

I feel about 136 years old.
As for your photo.

I like it in all ways asides (on my screen) the contrast looks too low.

Yes, I know, that's a personal thing.
 
Looks fine on mine. Perhaps it's your screen. Anyone else have problems with the contrast of the image?
 
I suppose that 10 different screens could possibly show 10 different effects all slightly different in brightness and contrast so not really a fair critique? so... should we leave this as is...? a nice seascape....?
