Which UV-C light source did you use? I didn't know you could use light to get rid of musty smells from old gear.
 
Does anyone know which camera this might fit? Approximately 9 inches square. Metal pins on three corners. Home made. Came with a Sinar ground glass holder. It doesn’t fit the J Lancaster cameras that came with it. Thanks.

Yes, it’s definitely that but for which camera?
Someone did the same for this J Lancaster.

The back on my Houghton The Queen has pins in similar positions to use it on portrait or landscape orientation:

Found a sinar 8x10 changing kit. Looking through 8x10 makes 4x5 aspect ration feel so so different for me. I looked through with one of my 210mm.

It's good eh! my 'first' 10x8, earlier last year was the Sinar P, I find that I have my rail pointed upwards a lot of the time, with architectural subjects adn not enough rise on the front standard. Its a lovely format and despite thinking how lovely contact prints would be, I am now enlarging and wondering why I didn't 4x my format earlier.

Almost as a follow up to the last post, after 30 years making photos with 5x4 cameras I bought a Sinar P early last year and having since got hooked on the 10x8 format, I bought this Kodak Master View 10x8 camera from a friend.
It has quickly become my go to camera, it has a great range of movements, more front rise than the Sinar P and is a lot easier to carry on site than. All it needs is a really good clean and some new bellows soon. I'm on the lookout for a 5x7 back as posted in the WTB section.

The back looks identical to mine and the bail back arm is an absolute blessing.
In your neck of the woods, it shouldn't be too difficult to pick up the other bits and bobs your after at a reasonable price. It's all work in progress.

Tim, I couldn’t agree more. The feel for me is completely different. The misses is a photographer also. When I told her 8x10 aspect ratio just feels different to 4x5, she looked at me and told me “they are the same, maths don’t lie”. I set up the camera and then told her to look through it and then give your opinion her response was :eek: “how does it feel different, it’s the same just bigger than 4x5, I can’t wait to use this”

I’ve the t shaped rear standard designed for 8x10 with my p2. I got the actual 8x10 changing kit Sinar sold. The rear standard they include is so small lol.

I’m definitely going to have fun. What tripod and head are you using as that looks very different. Also I’m thinking the best approach for lenses is to pick up the sinar shutter as most shutters will only go to up to 125th which is only one stop difference.

Nice. You deserve a knighthood for taking out a sinar p on the field! Mine is staying indoors. Not going outdoors. If a box of 8x10 colour film wasn’t the price of a camera itself I would absolutely love to explore it.
 
I have the sinar auto shutter but only for historic lenses and not for sinar db boards.
The principal reason is that I want to be able to use the same lenses across different systems. So almost all of my lenses are on standard Linhof boards and either fit natively or via an adapter.

Going down the Sinar db route will only allow the lenses to be used in conjunction with the Sinar auto shutter. That's not a problem if the lens is dedicated to your sinar system.

For big cameras, I use the Gitzo (oldie) PL5 as tripod head.

Hey martin. The rear arm standard is a massive blessing. Yes I’m in not rush. I had to clean the back a good amount. Learnt a lot taking it apart.

I will have fun martin. To be honest this back is ideally more for wet plate.

I was looking at that shutter as it goes to f4. Good point about using lenses on different cameras. My lenses 90,135 and 210 don’t cover 8x10 fully. The 210 sinaron s will has an image circle of 310mm at f22 soo would have black corner. I have an adapter so I can use my three lenses in my wista and sinar with 4x5.

This is something to look into I guess.

Thanks on the tripod and head. My manfrotto 410 head can hold the camera but it’s not that solid compared to with my rz67 or wista.

Just saw this. Maybe it will fit your camera? I would love a reducing back to 5x7 for the sinar but they didn’t make one.

Ok dry plate and wet plate are a completely different kettle of fish.

No experience here, but from what I've gleaned from over the years, is that the plate emulsions, UV sensitive, are better suited to non-coated lenses which pretty much rules out modern mc lenses and db boards.

As far as tripod heads go, I've recently been looking at geared levelling heads rather than full blown and more expensive tripod heads.
